The greatest battle in life isn’t between Right and Wrong, or even Right and Left. No, it’s the endless struggle between Confidence and Anxiety.
True confidence is not arrogance. Arrogance is just a particularly aggressive form of anxiety, a kind of “getting your punches in first”. No, confidence does not shout it from the rooftops, or tell you to go screw yourself. Neither does it feel the need to hide it’s light under a bushal. “This is me”, it says, “for better or worse, with all my talents and flaws. Yes, you can pick up on the bad things, but I’d prefer you concentrate on the good”.
As you are all fully-paid up members of the human race, you all know from first-hand experience how hard this deceptively simple-sounding thing is to achieve. Anxiety stalks our existence at every level, even encouraged by our governmental and corporate masters. “You’re life could be better, should be better” we are constantly told, “what you have is not enough”.
Confidence, in a quiet, but firm, voice, begs to disagree.
Nope, I’m not there yet (to be honest, I may never be). But at least I’ve got the refreshing lack of arrogance part down pat.
Maja Lindberg illustration
Maja Lindberg is a wonderful illustrator and pattern designer from Sweden. Obviously (with my owl fetish) I LOVE her owl illustration but her other work is equally amazing. I think we’re on the same wavelength when it comes to the scenes and images we both like to create. Magical!
Small magazine have just featured her in their new issue and kids can download one of her images to colour in themselves!
