I love when politicians (usually on the Republican side of things) defend their positions on things like tax cuts for the wealthy and weakening unions as being “good for business.” It makes my side of the argument easy.
Some still swear by “trickle-down” economics, even though history has proven that what is good for business does not equal that which is good for people.
China has great policies for business. When you can treat the workers like shit and pay them very little, business booms. That’s why your iPhone was made there instead of here…by someone who works 12-hour shifts, sleeps 8 to a room, is not allowed electric devices of their own, and are under constant threat of punishment from management.
That’s why Apple’s CEO Tim Cook said that he would love to manufacture iPhones here instead of in China, but can’t…it’s just not good for business to pay people a decent wage or treat them well.
Of course, the people continue suffer…but who cares? It was good for business!
