So I’ve been giving some thought lately to how many blogs I have. I mean, it’s gotten a little out of hand. The rest is behind a read more because I’m going to be reblogging this on all of my blogs and you don’t want this wall of text on your dashboard six times.

This may or may not be all of them. There’s an *outside chance* that I may have shopped one out.

And sure, one is just for test posts (helpful especially when experimenting with custom home icons without releasing them into the wild before they’re ready), and a couple are locked because they’re just a place to hold little side-projects that I’m working on that aren’t necessarily for public consumption, but I want a record that I can access easily, even from my e-reader, and share with specific people.

But any way you slice it, that’s a lot of blogs. Then throw in two twitter accounts (the @KennyVee account that some of you know and a @NotWalt account that is only for Disney stuff, which I hardly ever use), and it’s all a bit overwhelming to keep tabs on.

So I’m thinking I need to cut back.

I’ll open it up for discussion and give it some time, but here’s what I’m thinking:

  • Kenny Vee would be the main home for everything. It’s me. It’s my name (or as close to it as I’m going to get to using my real name online, at any rate).

  • Dark Disney would stop getting updates. I wanted a place to gather Disneyland ghost stories, and maybe talk a bit about villains, but I’ve told all of the ghost stories I have, and haven’t had much time to write in depth about villains. The blog would stay where it is so that the posts would still be available, but no longer be updated.

  • WEDWAY PeopleMover would stop getting updates. There really wasn’t anywhere online that was a one-stop shop for Disneyland PeopleMover information, and I wanted to fix that. I branched out a bit to include some things from Walt Disney World’s PeopleMover, but I’m not the expert on their version of the attraction that I am with Disneyland’s. Other than reblogging photos, which only serves to push the actual informative posts further down the blog, I think I’ve done about all I can do there. The blog, like Dark Disney, would stay online for posterity.

  • Mr. Smee would get deleted. It’s a new blog, and only a few people follow it anyway. I can still do the occasional Smee photoshop job on my main blog as the mood strikes…I like having random adventures with Mr. Smee, but I don’t know that I need an actual blog dedicated to it. I’d repost the handful of images that I’ve done on my main blog so they could live on, but I bet someone else would really like that URL (especially now that he’s on Once Upon a Time).

  • Home Icons would stay. I’d hate to delete it and suddenly have all those icons not work (the custom home icons actually pull the image files from the images I upload in those posts). I don’t get many requests anymore, as most people who wanted custom icons have already made them, had them made for them and installed them, or decided it was too complicated.  If nothing else, I like the tutorial I did there on how to make them. If I get requests, I’ll still do them, but don’t expect much to be appearing there.

  • The @NotWalt twitter account would be deleted. Before I do that I’ll tweet that I’m still on twitter as @KennyVee and leave that tweet up for a few days before I delete, but since I hardly ever tweet on @NotWalt these days I don’t see why I should keep it.

  • The Disney Files would stop getting updates. This is the one I’m not sure how people will react to, on a couple of fronts. For one thing, I have received a lot of compliments on that blog. It’s the blog of mine that has the most followers. But I just think it’s time to be who I am on my own blog instead of having to remember to tell tumblr to put things over there instead (which, as some of you may have noticed, I don’t always remember to do anyway). Like Dark Disney and WEDWAY PeopleMover, The Disney Files would stay accessible because I’m pretty proud of some of what I’ve written on it, and there’s no reason to delete it.

For another thing, part of why I started that blog was because I was afraid that people would unfollow my main Kenny Vee blog if I was posting Disney all the time. I had a lot of people follow me here because they knew me as a jokester on twitter, and I wanted their acceptance (as well as their stars for my tweets).

But over time, I’ve fallen out of a lot of the twitter crowd. I still hang on to a few of those who I call friends, but I guess I sort of outgrew the whole twitter comedy scene when I realized it was a bunch of people telling the same jokes as everyone else over and over again, just worded slightly differently (“freaking bumper stickers, man,” as some of you may recall them being called) and in a lot of cases, it was nothing but shock value disguised as humor, but there was not too much of substance.

So, long story short, I’m not as hungry for acceptance from that crowd. I’ve come around to the “I hope people like me, but if they don’t that’s OK too” way of thinking. And I think that, with that in mind, it’s time to just let the Disney part of me show more on the main blog instead of putting it somewhere else as if I was ashamed of it or didn’t want it to sully my main account. Disney is a part of who I am. I may as well let it live on under my own name.

Of course, I know some of the followers from The Disney Files won’t follow me on my main account. And that’s OK. Obviously, not everything I post will be Disney. In fact, lately I’m surprised I haven’t lost more followers on my main account due to political posts. I also tend to post more about my feelings, which sometimes include depressing stuff. I’ve led a tough life, and sometimes my posts reflect that as well.

But it’s all a part of who I am. And I’m kind of thinking that people can take me or leave me.

I won’t make these changes until after next Tuesday, November 6th. I’ve been pretty outspoken on the election, and I imagine that’s not going to change for the next week. Hopefully it’s not like the 2000 election that drags on for over a month before we know who won when it’s decided by the courts and I can stop arguing with Mitt Romney on a regular basis.

But if you see a post on The Disney Files and other blogs next week saying that the blog is retiring and that any new posts will appear on KennyVee, this is what’s going on. I didn’t want to spring this on everyone at the last minute (though people who didn’t read this post will still be caught off guard).

And if any of you have any feedback on this plan, now’s the time to speak up. I’ve checked the “Let people answer this” box, and you can also reach me in any of my ask boxes, or use the submit function if your comment is too long for an ask.
