Dr. Keith Ablow, M.D. was just on a rerun of The O’Reilly factor from last night (I’ve been flipping through the news stations). The video is above.

He’s bragging that if he met with the shooter in Colorado for 45 minutes, he would find out where the rage came from and what caused it. And he describes how, in meeting with a patient, he would trap someone into saying that they sometimes have thoughts of getting back at people, and then calling 9-1-1 to have that person taken away.

And people wonder why more of us don’t seek psychiatric help.

I should probably say this now: I will never hurt people…most of you have followed me long enough to know how much I hate violence. I’d end my own life — not anyone else’s — if it got that bad.

Could I be helped by getting treatment? I believe I most likely could. Would medication be good for me? Probably. But, considering that I can’t afford treatment and would have to take what I could get if I begged the state for help, I’d be too worried that I’d get that doctor who would decide that it’s easier to put me away than it is to help.

I know it’s only Fox News, and that this doctor is most likely just an asshole who should have his license revoked. He’s trying to find a way to blame everyone except the shooter for not acting on his own perception of the signs that were missed, even though he doesn’t know if any such signs existed. He’s so busy running his mouth about how he would have solved this case by now and answered every question that exists over the shooting, that he doesn’t apparently realize what an arrogant fuck he actually is.

But when I saw this, I knew that I’d never see a psychiatrist. Before, it was a financial issue. Now it’s become a fear of them. This is not what I thought they were like.
