► Are you single ➔ “Here I am, a confirmed old bachelor and likely to remain so.” (Henry Higgins says this in My Fair Lady, but I don’t have a better way to phrase “forever alone”)

► Are you happy ➔ I have happy moments here and there, but in an overall sense, it’s been quite a while since I’ve been happy.

► Are you bored ➔ Tumblr keeps me entertained, but yeah, in a “life” sense, I’m bored.

► Are you sad ➔ Yes, much of the time. I often think that I had my golden opportunity in life, and I blew it.

► Are you Italian ➔ I honestly don’t know. My first stepdad (who I usually refer to as Evil Stepdad #1 on here) used to brag about how Italian he was, though.

► Are you German ➔ Don’t know. I remember when I was a kid, before the first divorce, my dad said something about being 1/4^th this and 1/16^th that and 1/16^th this other thing and 1/32^nd something else (and so on), so I’ve always just called myself a mutt and not worried too much about it.

► Are you Asian ➔ I don’t look like it. Probably not.

► Are you angry ➔ Not generally. Sure, I get angry about things, but I don’t think I’m generally an angry person.

► Are you Irish ➔ I might be part that. As much as my family apparently got around, odds are there’s a percentage of Irish in there somewhere.

► Are your parents still married ➔ Nope, they separated when I was 6, divorced when I was 7. From then on, it was me and Mom and various men. Dad wasn’t a big part of the picture (if you want to read a bit about him, check my dad tag).

TEN THINGS ABOUT YOUR LOVE LIFE

► Are you in love ➔ Nope. It’s been a while.

► Do you believe in love at first sight ➔ It may be possible, but even in those cases the relationship would take work.

► Who ended your last relationship ➔ Probably depends on who you ask. When I went to visit her the last time, she didn’t pick me up from the airport and had been badmouthing me to her friends online. When I got home, I stopped calling and so did she. Is there a referee who can decide who ended it? I don’t dwell on the “who,” though…I think we both knew we’d run our course.

► Have you ever been hurt ➔ Oh yeah. My ex-fiancee sent me a “Dear John” email on Christmas Eve. That’s hard to shake off.

► Have you ever broken someone’s heart ➔ Sadly, yes.

► Are you friends with your ex ➔ It’s been what, three and a half years or so? We haven’t talked since. But she lives in New York, and I’m in Washington, so it’s not like the odds of us bumping into each other are very high.

► Are you afraid of commitment ➔ No, but maybe yes. I’d love to find one woman to spend the rest of my life with and settle down with them, but I’m afraid that I would end up with the wrong person if I committed too quickly. After being single for this long, I guess I’m just used to it. See also: abandonment issues

► Have you hugged someone within the last week? ➔ I have not.

► Have you ever had a secret admirer ➔ Not unless you count tumblr anons…I’ve had a few flirty ones, but I don’t think that counts. Wait, I did have flowers left on my car windshield once, but there was no card/note and I think maybe someone just left them there by mistake.

► Have you ever broken your own heart? ➔ Oh yeah.

► Been caught sneaking out ➔ My mom just assumed that if I wasn’t home, I was at my friend’s house a few blocks away (which was usually true, unless our group of friends was sliding down grass hills on blocks of ice or driving a couch through LAX or something). I think I went an entire summer once where my mom saw me maybe three times.

► Fallen off the stairs ➔ You mean some people haven’t?

► White water rafted ➔ A couple times. The last time, we hit a Class 4 rapid and I was catapulted from the raft. I came down right next to the raft, though, and was able to grab on to the rope that went around it and ride it out safely.

► Finished an entire jawbreaker ➔ Yes. It took a while — unless you mean the tiny gobstopper ones — I’m thinking the medium-sized Disneyland ones. I never finished their giant ones.

► Wanted something/someone so badly it hurt? ➔ Yes

► Prank called a store ➔ No, but I prank called Michael Eisner once from the Balloon Room at Disneyland. Then other people decided to do it, too. We showed up on his secretary’s caller ID and she called us back to see what was going on, and I pretended to be more important than I was and said I’d put a stop to it (I did actually put a stop to it, though).

► Skipped school ➔ I probably missed 1/3 of 6^th grade and 1/4 of 8^th grade from pretending to be sick.

► Wanted to disappear ➔ Most definitely.

► Smile or eyes ➔ I’m a sucker for eyes, but eyes are always prettier when someone smiles.

LAST…

► Last Phone Call ➔ My best friend in L.A. when I went to visit him not long ago, to let him know that I had landed and was waiting at the airport (which he was already circling in his car).

► Last phone call you received ➔ My dad’s widow, letting me know that I was left out of the will. Wow, that was back in May. Been a while since anyone called me.

► Last person you hung out with ➔ Other than family? My buddy in L.A. a few weeks ago. He flew me down for a visit and we did some catching up, but mostly enjoyed reliving a bit of the good old days when we’d just hang out all the time.

► Last thing you ate ➔ Finishing a Nissin Cup Noodles as I type.

► Last thing you drank ➔ Diet Shasta Cola (not a fan, but water gets old).

► Last site you went to ➔ Tumblr, or if that doesn’t count, then it was a Mozilla help site because I was sick and tired of the Thunderbird email program doing web searches with Bing.

► Last place you were ➔ Wow, has it already been two weeks since I left the house? Last time I went anywhere was to my little sister’s for the 4^th of July..

RELATIONSHIPS

► Are you in a committed relationship ➔ Nope

► When was your last relationship ➔ Ended in December of 2008.

► Have you ever loved a guy/girl more than anything else in the world? ➔ My ex-fiancee, yes. I was ready to spend forever with her. In retrospect, I’m probably better off that it didn’t happen, but I’ve never before or since felt that way about anyone.

► Do you still love them ➔ I can’t say that I do. We tried the whole “we can still be friends” thing, but then she got ticked off that I shared a joke with her brother a few months later, angry that I talked to someone in her family without her “OK.” So then I told her she couldn’t boss me around anymore, and the only other time we spoke after that was several years later, when I rehired into Disneyland, and she was in City Hall when I went to deliver a deflated balloon for a guest who had requested it. It was a very short meeting…I gave her the balloon, she said “thanks,” and walked away. After that, I sent someone else to City Hall if she was there. No need to let guests sense the awkward.

► Do you like someone right now ➔ Realistically? No. There are a few who I wouldn’t mind getting to know better, but I’m not exactly a ladies’ man…and I’m OK with that. I’m not exactly a catch anyway.

► Do you and your family get along ➔ On my mom’s side, yes. Dad’s side hates me because I didn’t suck up to him when he was dying. My older sister (who lived with my dad after the divorce) and I never really got along as kids. We made peace, but then I didn’t go visit dad when we knew he was dying (here’s a post about how I felt about him if you want to know why I didn’t want to go — he just wanted people to see him make nice with me; he didn’t want me to come because he actually wanted to see me).

► Would you say you have a “messed up life”➔ Big-time. I think that’s part of why I always mentally escaped to Disney. It was an escape from my own harsh realities.

► Have you ever run away from home ➔ I’d catch a shuttle from LAX to Disneyland when I needed to escape Evil Stepdad #1 for a while (we lived within walking distance if I couldn’t get a ride to the airport). Until I lost my last job a couple years ago, I’d worked since I was ten years old, so I could afford to go once a month or so. It was more fun than running away.

► Have you ever gotten kicked out ➔ Evil Stepdad #1 shipped me off to live with my dad in 6^th grade, but it didn’t work out too well between us and dad shipped me back.

► If so, how long ➔ About half the school year (this was the part of 6^th grade where I was ditching school, too…the bullying in Santa Barbara was too much for me).

FRIENDS

► Do you secretly hate one of your friends ➔ No

► Do you consider all of your friends good friends ➔ Well, in real life my only actual friend (as opposed to friends I only talk to online) lives in L.A. We’ve been friends for over 20 years, so I think it’s safe to say that we’re very good friends. Online, it’s harder to tell.

► Who are/is your best friend(s) ➔ That would be my buddy Ed in L.A. The man has stuck with me through a hell of a lot, and I may not have made it this far without him.

► Would you die for them ➔ He’s got more to live for than me, so I probably would.

► Who knows everything about you ➔ Ed. Although if anyone’s actually read everything I’ve ever posted here, they know me pretty damned well also.
