OK, I think it’s bedtime. 34 hours awake from Monday night through my parents’ departure yesterday to now…I think it’s time to hope that all the Final Fantasy II that I played today doesn’t pervade my dreams (basically it was a day of fighting whatever baddies I could in order to level up and gain gil to buy mythril weapons/armor, but if I have those fights in my dreams they won’t go so well).
Of course, the other things on my mind are Robin Williams and Ferguson, so who knows if I even have a shot at avoiding nightmares this morning. But I can’t stay up forever, so I guess I’d better roll the proverbial dice and see what I end up with. Maybe if I play music while I sleep things will be OK (I’m thinking Alice in Chains Unplugged, which at the moment is a reminder of my recent trip to L.A. where I listened to some of it with my homie down there).
Toodle-oo, tumblr. Toodle-oo.
The Wiz is on one of the HBO channels right now and I’m bummed that in the info window on Dish Network they don’t give Nipsey Russell billing at all. Not only is he one of the main characters (the Tin Man), but the dude was the Poet Laureate of Television all through my childhood and he can’t get a mention in the description?
I know Michael Jackson and Diana Ross and Richard Pryor were bigger draws, but Nipsey was the man.
I’m mostly just sitting here listening to Robin Williams on my iPod tonight and I ran into this bit from Live at the Roxy, his first HBO special in 1978.
Sort of chilling to listen to now.
Keep bozo, everyone.
David Letterman took some time on his show Monday to talk about his friendship with Robin Williams. I don’t watch Dave these days, so I’m glad I saw this link pop up on Facebook.
My parents just left on their latest vacation. They’ll be gone for four weeks.
My mom said “I got you food, but I didn’t keep track of how much I bought, so I hope there’s enough to last that long.”
Yeah, you and me both.
When Yahoo bought Tumblr for more than a billion dollars, a lot of us wondered how it would ever turn a profit. After all, people sharing cat GIFs and monochrome erotica didn’t seem like a very effective business model. According to Mashable, however, the social network is going to earn its keep by helping big brands like Coca Cola and Nike understand how they’re perceived. That’s because Tumblr is hooking up with analytics firm Ditto, which will scour your pictures looking for sneakers and soft drinks in the frame. It’ll then pass this data on to the companies involved for a fee, helping them to ensure the teenagers are all praising the right sort of soda at the next box social, or something.
Update: Tumblr’s reached out to confirm the deal, a “firehose partnership” with the agency, will go ahead this week.
The user also uses q-tips, but not garbage cans.
They also likely listen to a lot of Taylor Swift music.
Sometimes we get sad about things and we don’t like to tell other people that we are sad about them. We like to keep it a secret. Or sometimes, we are sad but we really don’t know why we are sad, so we say we aren’t sad but we really are.
Anger. Fear. Hatred. Disbelief. Sorrow. Helplessness. Desire to fix it. Realization that I can’t. Strong desire to not be a part of this world anymore.
I do believe it’s time for a nap.
